Thanks Chris & Iain
Folks,
On behalf of all Aberdeen MGOC members I propose a vote of thanks to Chris Briggs for setting up our initial web hosting site which has been pivotal to the clubs' recovery and growth over the last year or so and, more recently, to newest member Iain Brown for setting up this forum facility.
I hope you will all take the time to get involved in the facilities available which allows you, as members, to express your views and opinions. We want to hear from you so please use this forum to let us all know your thoughts and ideas for the way forward.
I look forward to the forthcoming season and enjoying our cars (chrome or rubber, tin top or soft top, vintage, classic or modern, UK or Chinese or whatever as long as they share the "Octagon Badge") on the road where they belong. All welcome.
Cheers,
Graeme.

Re: Thanks Chris & Iain
Graham,
Thanks for the note, most appreciated but you may have spoken too soon. Our website will be "off air" in the next 2 hours and may stay down for up to 2 days as we transfer to our new cheaper hosts - I am not sure it will go that smoothly!
Changing hosts gives us several advantages and although is not free (like MG highland have) gives us many man y benefits:
Storage - we have enough storage space to have multiple photo albums - event albums of individual rebuild records if required! We can have forms to download for entry into things........
E-Shop - we now have the ability to have a secured website to allow us to sell things online - maybe not for this year but for next year I would like to investigate how we can get a club shop going - maybe not needed but it might help Graham at subs time if we can all order our year subs online? Saves cash, makes it easier to pay etc etc.
Email addresses - god we can have 400 email addresses with these forwarded to different accounts, for example, Graham Duncans can have "leader@aberdeenmgoc.co.uk", Carl could have events@aberdeenmgoc or we could have individual email accounts as I doubt we will ever get more than 400 members! All email addresses have individual passwords and are accessible from the web or your computer can be configured to recieve them via outlook etc.
There are many other things we can do but might never need to. Anyway, Iain has kindly agreed to make the new website and is currently basing it on the old one. As time gets on a little, we can add additional pages as per user requirements.
By the way Iain, just be careful what you put on this website as the registration is to my home address!

I can tell you in advance that it will go ahead without any drama by 9pm this evening.
I have tried some pages, and they are working fine
BIG HUGE thanks to Chris for sorting out the changeover.

Re: Thanks Chris & Iain
Well the Green Midget is now signed up and trying to work out what to do next with this new technology. Looking forward to the new website - add my thanks but whos was suggesting that I get an email address - everything from MGOC gets spammed out by BT.

Re: Thanks Chris & Iain
Presuming the green midget is Carl (although personally I dont think he is THAT small), the spam filter on BT is probably blocking MGOC emails as they are always part of a distribution list and go to a few people. It may also react differently now we have a new provider. Anyway, we can talk about email addresses in the future!
Looking forward to seeing the new website, come on DR get it uploaded!
