Shotblasting / chemical stripping
Now that I've got all the bits and pieces off the MG, I'm looking for someone to shotblast / chemical strip all the underseal, paint and general crud off the car, so I can crack on with the welding. Any recommendations? local companies preferred. I have come across a compay down in Dudley, W. Midlands. SPL surface processing Ltd, but that's a fair hike with a trailer.

Re: Shotblasting / chemical stripping
Sorry Dave i dont know of anywhere but hopefully someone else does! Any photos of the job so far? It would be good - as the only known resto going on in our area to put a section on the website with photos and update it every now and again!!

Re: Shotblasting / chemical stripping
The only known resto project in the area!! No pressure there, then! Since I started, I've managed to rope in a mate who's done a rolling resto on a Lotus Elan 2+2, and one of the neighbours who's done something similar on a Landy 101. (same engine as MGB V8). Most of the stuff, I'm learning as I go along. I'll have alook see what photos might be worth posting. Can you attach photos to these postings. maybe someone will recognise the car and fill me in on missing history.

Re: Shotblasting / chemical stripping
yes you can attach pictures, you have to upload them to a hosting site such as photobucket, then you click on the "insert image" button and paste in the URL which is given for you rpicture on the photobucket website. if you struggle, let me know, i can demo how to do it over the internet for you to see.
There is a lost and found section on the national club website where you post a reg and if anyone knows history, they put it back, if you give me the reg ai can post on your behalf if you havent joined the national club.

Sounds like something for the good Dr to add to the list of things to teach at the February meet as I understand it is to be a presentation on how to use the forum! Might be an idea for DDSMG to come along and join in as well! (Just remember to bring a tenner for club membership)
Cheers

Re: Shotblasting / chemical stripping
I joined the MG Owners club to get access to their technical stuff, then I came across the MGCC - V8 Register, which may have been more appropriate. Which one is the 'official' club?
I think I have att a pic of the car, taken just after it was deposited in my drive off the back of a mate's trailer. There are more, but the IT police at the office, were getting all shirty about me hogging bandwidth. Will download from home.
I was hoping to come along to the Feb meeting, but work commitments mean I'm prob not going to be in Aberdeen that week. I'll keep an eye on the website for update and future events.

Re: Shotblasting / chemical stripping
hey it looks good without any work!
OK, so if you join the MGOC, the forum is bloody good! Geoff is on it a lot, as it Perry (who runs the nitro BV8 at santa pod all the time!).The clubs are different but I dont think they are as different as they used to be!! A while ago, the MGCC was concerned with originality and older mg's - i.e. up to the MGA. Thus the MGOC was formed to serve the requirements of all MG owners - i.e. MGB's onwards. However now the MGCC are welcoming of both the earlier and later cars. I think a lot of V8 people are members of both clubs.

Apologies! I wasn't expecting the photo to be so large. is there something I can do to resize before posting.
Thanks for the info on the clubs. The guys on the tech desk at MGOC have been great.
Glad you liked the photo. It doesn't look like that now. My initial estimate of a 1-2 year project is now looking distinctly ambitious. Removal of all parts except the suspension has uncovered a little more rust than expected (cries of " i told you so"). so I'm currently on a crash course in Sheet metalwork and MIG welding. Dropping Latin for Techy, is finally paying off!

Re: Photo
The easiest thing is to get memebrs to send photos to the website photo address. There plenty of room there and it saves the hassle of setting up photobucket accounts etc, for the less technologically minded. I can then return links to the members, or just insert the pics in the thread myself.
Or have a "members photos" on the website, that we need a password to access, then you can just hotlink from there onto here, but will not be public as such.

Re: Shotblasting / chemical stripping
Just an update on the resto.
The car has been successfully sand blasted and is now back in the garage on the rollover jig. I'm going to get plenty welding practice! If anybody wants to see a GT shell laid bare, you're welcome to view. A small entrance fee will be charged. Joking...it's 20 quid! :-)
I am on the lookout for a joggler if anyone has one I could borrow for a couple of weeks.
I'll post some pics later on.
